BRIEF HISTORY OF SAN GUILLERMO ACADEMY

Welcome to
SAN GUILLERMO ACADEMY

San Guillermo Academy was established as a Catholic School in the Year 1964 through the initiative of the former parish priest of Talisay, Rev. Fr. Leoncio L. Lat, who later became Bishop Leoncio L. Lat, D.D. The school was established as a non-stock, non-profit educational institution. During the first years of its foundation, Fr. Lat acted as the School Director with the help of the Principal and other lay teachers. Since then, whoever is parish priest of Talisay becomes the School Director. In Nov. 1965 until April l966 the school was temporarily closed due to the eruption of Taal Volcano. On May 30, l966 the Government Recognition was granted to SGA to offer secondary education until the third year level. A new building was constructed. On Aug. 20, l967, Sr. Mary of St. John Berchman from Wisconsin, USA, came to teach in the Academy. The school, little by little blossomed from its humble beginning. The Academy received its approval as a legitimate High School from the Bureau of Education on May 14, l968. Mr. Andres Macasaet was appointed as principal of the Academy while Msgr. Marciano Dailo, the Parish Priest, was the School Director. When Rev. Fr. Ricardo Echague became the school director, he thought of inviting some Religious Sisters to help him administer the school, since being a Parish Priest and head of the school at the same time proved to be too taxing. That time the acting principal was Mrs. Erlinda Malabanan. Upon the request of Fr. Echague, the former Archbishop of Lipa , the late Most Rev. Msgr. Mariano Gaviola, D.D. sent some sisters of the Missionary Catechists of the Sacred Heart to help administer the school sometime in 1988. It was also on that year Rev. Fr. Godofredo Mendoza became the School director replacing Rev. Fr. Ricardo Echague. Sr. Ma. Teresita Villar, MCSH became the first Missionary Catechist of the Sacred Heart sister to be Principal of San Guillermo Academy. The Pre-Elementary Department took its first roots during the School Year l996-97. This is through the initiative of the School Director Rev. Fr. Dioscoro Villasis and the principal , Sr. Ma. Josefina J. Valencia, MCSH. This move later paved the opening of the Elementary Department. In 1999, Sr. Mary Purification Perez, MCSH became the principal of the Academy, with Rev. Fr. Reynaldo Evangelista as Director. During the school year 2000-2001, Rev. Reynaldo G. Evangelista, in his desire to improve the school facilities, he began the construction of a two-storey building for the elementary department. Upon the demise of Sr. Mary Purification on Dec. 2001, Sr. Ma. Teresita Villar, MCSH was reassigned principal of the school. After two years, on November 5, 2003 the elementary department got the approval with Government Recognition no.E-006,s. 2003 from the department of education.
